🤔 internet and bubbles

the internet has allowed for greater exposure to greater diversity of values
- continues the culture/value war, but now at a greater scale
- analogy to (that Toronto comedian's) "eventually, everyone is going to be beige"
- all cultures under attack
  - some cultures try to protect themselves via distancing / creating a bubble
    - (ones that tend to have vested institutions)
- analogy to reddit
  - without "isolation" of subreddits, any forum devolves to a lowest-common-denominator (the front-page)
- in-group / out-group "wiring" leads people to seek bubbles
  - or create bubbles where there are none
  - ie. we like being in an in-group (which requires an out-group)
