🤔 "hard"

• "hard" is another one of those 2025-01-21 useless words
• (regarding how it's used when people say things like: "entrepreneurship is "hard"")
• "difficult", "tough"
• different kinds of "hard":
  • requiring a lot of resources
  • involving significant unknowns / "risk"
    • open research problems (nobody knows, probably knowable)
    • startup market risk (nobody knows, partially unknowable - keeps changing, or chaotic)
  • emotionally challenging
    • ex. euthanizing animals
    • ex. having to get a lot of "nos" when doing sales
  • you don't have the skill (but others do)
    • ex. snowboarding
    • ex. playing chess
  • you don't know what to do
  • it is unlikely
    • ex. winning the lottery
  • takes a lot of sustained effort
  • requires coordination of others (outside of locus of control)

• has it been done before?
  • yes
    • do you have the knowledge / skills / resources? (or control over...)
    • do you have the volition?
      • hard to do things you don't want to do (no positive desire, or aversion)
      • conflicting desires (short vs long term, or other competing desires)
  • no

• effort vs knowledge/experience/skill
• ambigous / confusing
• effort vs bearing with stress
• well-defined vs ill-defend
  • current situation is undesirable, but...
    • well-defined: desired outcome is known
    • ill-defined: but even desired outcome is unknown
• having to make an impactful decision with not enough time / knowledge
  • "making decisions with incomplete information"
• fear, anxiety
