AGI development will likely go through a phase where:
- (a) intelligence is sufficient for AGI to have moral rights (according to some people)
- (b) but it is very expensive (but possible) to keep "alive"
(a) is likely to be only realized in retrospect (before we have a moral / legal threshold for "has moral rights")
- ...resulting in hundreds (thousands, millions?) of AGIs "killed"
  - there will likely be a new legal category for AGI "murder" and "euthanasia" (as those are currently reserved for humans)
...also
- biological "life" has been traditionally defined by self-reproduction
  - but things like viruses and pryons have been challenging that
  - AGI will likely challenge defitnition of "life" too
