🤔 politics value signaling

theory on voting / politics
- we vote for politicians who seem to closest match our values, not necessarily those with specific policies we want
- promises made during a campaign are there for signaling values, not actual promises
- politicians know this, and many are capable of fake signaling
  - ...and choosing what to signal "to win"
  - some value signals are counter to other value signals, so the "art" is in choosing the set of values/signals to win the most votes
- voters "know" this as well
  - (we are skeptical of any promises actually being delivered)
