IMO...
one's own ethics
- "by definition", the bounds within one operates
- impossible to consciously be "unethical"
  - except when drugged, by accident, or by ignorance ("washing dishes to save water, but dishwasher actually uses less")
remorse / regret / guilt over "acting unethically"
- either:
  - personal ethics have changed, thus regret over past actions
  - new information about impact of certain actions, thus regret over past actions
  - comparing one's actions to someone else's / group ethics / aspirational ethics
