getting your child to play piano (or some other mostly pointless activity)
not for the benefits inherent to the activity
but, instead, of "teaching" "discipline"
ie. having the child learn to emotionally regulate by doing things they don't "feel like"
(catch: if they are motivated to do the activity to avoid displeasing a parent, it's no longer learning/practicing emotional regulation)
"teaching"
a generous term
closer to "training", "forced conditioning"
"discipline"
used here colloquially
more specifically mean "emotional regulation"
still unclear to me if "discipline" exists, or its just a word used for many things, like "habit-ful", "obedient" / "authority-motivated", or "high emotional regulation"
